Running
When running injuries occur – IT Band syndrome, plantars fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, Patellar tendonitis and tibial stress fractures – runners realize that running the right way is more complex than crossing the finish line. Injuries come from over-training, from running the wrong way or in the wrong shoe and from select muscle weakness and flexibility issues. Bon Secours Physical Therapy’s team breaks down the biomechanics of the way you run, using Dartfish Video gait analysis to identify your weaknesses and show how you can run better.
Our running analysis is also suitable for those who are just beginning a running program, perhaps a first attempt at a 5k or someone attempting to run their first marathon. We can determine your risk of injury and help prevent pesky injuries which may keep you from reaching your goal.
Experienced runners who are looking for an edge to pass the competition can use our running analysis to improve their running efficiency. This will translate into less energy wasted during your run and turn into less time to complete your race.
In a running assessment, Bon Secours Physical Therapy Richmond’s team makes the following analyses:
- Biomechanical analysis of the running cycle
- Foot and ankle structural assessment
- Footwear/orthotic evaluation
- Musculoskeletal strength and flexibility evaluation
Treatment options are customized to each runner’s needs and may include:
- Movement correction drills (for both injury prevention and running efficiency/speed)
- Strengthening exercises
- Stretching exercises
- Recommendations for pain control
- Orthotic recommendation
- Running shoe recommendation
Every client getting a running analysis will receive a CD with their Dartfish Video Analysis. Your running analysis will always be completed by a licensed Physical Therapist with advanced training in running biomechanics.
